Tesla have become well-known for their forward-thinking solution to energy outages.
In short, the Powerwall collection is a ‘power bank’ that keeps your electricity working even in the event of your conventional method going down; in professional terms this is known as ‘energy independence’.

Why the Powerwall 3? When creating this edition, Tesla have really taken on board all the feedback from the previous models and really outdone themselves! Their tagline for the product is “Designed by installers, for installers” – which is thought to highlight the fact they have worked closely with installers that have worked with their previous models and aimed to improve the product accordingly.

It is a 13.5kWh rechargeable lithium-ion battery boasting 11.5kw max continuous supply- although the storage capacity is the same as its predecessor, other notable improvements have been made. For example, an EV charger integration, improved run time and twice the power output.

Although the 13.5kWh is generous in size, you will be able to purchase additional expansion packs to increase this battery capacity- these are said to be released later in the year. The idea being, that the expansion packs will offer an easy and cost-effective way to increase the capabilities without the expense of doubling up on the purchase & installation of another full Powerwall.

Even without these additions, it has been designed so that for most homes, you can receive enough power for your entire household’s electricity needs during an outage. This will of course depend on the amount of power your family uses at any given time. Parents of teenagers- we’re looking at you!

It goes without saying that something of this nature is an investment, so it is encouraging to hear that with proper care, it is estimated that the lifespan of these can be between 15-20 years. Of course, as a new product this is an educated estimate. The warranty seems to back this up, with an all-inclusive warranty which guarantees 80% cell capacity after a whopping 10 years.

In the long run, you are going to be saving a fair few pennies on your electricity bills- the cost of living crisis here in the UK has made electricity one of the fastest growing household bills, and shown us the benefits of gaining the independence that comes from having your own solar power supply ready for when you need it!

The exciting thing to know is this- a Tesla Powerwall can power your entire house in the case of an outage.
Being flood, weather and dust resistant, means it is very almost indestructible- although, we don’t encourage testing this theory!

If storage space is a little slim, the good news is it can be stored inside or outside and can be wall mounted, as well a free-standing. Making it a very versatile piece of kit!
